Kerala Family Tour Packages for Every Age Group
Our standard Kerala family tour packages run from 4 to 10 days and cost Rs 4,418 to Rs 16,999 per person, twin sharing, land only, as of September 2026. Infants usually travel free, and children pay a reduced rate set by age and bedding. A typical trip pairs hills, a houseboat and a beach.
We are trip2keralam, a Kerala travel company with an on-ground team across the state. This page is written for the parent doing the planning. It answers the questions a family actually asks: what the trip costs once children are counted, whether the rooms fit four or five, whether the houseboat is safe with a toddler, and how long the drives really are with a five year old in the car.
Kerala Family Tour Packages we recommend
Eight packages from 4 to 10 days, chosen because the drives are short, there is no more than one single-night stop where possible, and each has something for children to do.

How are children priced on a Kerala family package?
Infants usually travel free, younger children sharing your bed pay a reduced child rate, and a child needing an extra bed pays more. From about age 12 a child is charged as an adult. Exact ages and amounts are set per property. The bands below are the standard structure Kerala hotels and houseboats use. The exact cut-off ages and the rupee figures are set by each property, so we confirm them in writing against our current rate sheet before you pay.
| Guest | Typical age band | How the rate works |
|---|---|---|
| Infant | Under 2 years | Usually free. No separate bed or seat. |
| Child, no extra bed | About 2 to 5 years | Reduced child rate, or free when sharing your existing bedding. Varies per property |
| Child, with extra bed | About 5 to 11 years | Child-with-bed rate, quoted per hotel and per houseboat |
| Child as adult | 12 years and above | Charged at the adult per-person rate. |
| Extra adult | Adult sharing a room | Extra-adult rate on a rollaway or sofa bed. |
A worked example, so you can see the shape of the bill Take the standard Kerala Family Grand Tour at Rs 8,499 per person for 6 nights, for two adults and two children.
- Two adults on twin sharing: 2 x Rs 8,499 = Rs 16,998, standard package land only.
- Two children under about 5 sharing your existing bedding: reduced child rate each
- If one child needs an extra bed: add the child-with-bed rate for that child.
So, a family of four starts at Rs 16,998 land only for the two adults, plus the child charges once we know their ages and whether they need beds. Air fare is separate. We send the full figure, not a front price, before you commit.
Which package suits your family?
Under-5s do best on the shortest, slowest trips. Primary-age children want activities, teenagers want the outdoors, and multi-generational groups need short transfers and a beach to wind down.
| Family shape | Package | Duration | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toddlers under 5 | Kochi and Munnar Family Getaway | 3N / 4D | Shortest drives, no trek, boating and a tea demonstration to hold attention. |
| Primary-school age, 5 to 11 | Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey Family Holiday | 5N / 6D | Boating, a spice walk, the Periyar cruise and one houseboat night, at a steady pace. |
| Teenagers | Wayanad and Kozhikode Family Explorer, or Kerala Complete Family Circuit | 4N / 5D or 7N / 8D | Zipline, kayaking, the Edakkal climb and bamboo rafting keep older children engaged. |
| Multi-generational with grandparents | Kerala Family Grand Tour, or Kerala Grand Family Holiday | 6N / 7D or 9N / 10D | Short transfers, two-night stops and a beach day are easy on older knees. |
A toddler changes the pace more than the destination. With a child under three you want one hill station, not two, a houseboat day rather than a hill trek, and the beach kept for the end. A teenager changes the activities: they will sit through one tea museum, so trade the second viewpoint for a zipline, a kayak or the Edakkal climb.
What does a 7-day Kerala family itinerary look like?
Our most-booked family week is the Kerala Family Grand Tour: Kochi, two nights in Munnar, Thekkady, a houseboat night, then Marari beach. The longest drive is about four hours. Drive times are approximate and confirmed at booking.
Day 1 Kochi
Airport or station pickup, Fort Kochi and the Chinese fishing nets, Marine Drive, and a short evening Kathakali show. A night in Kochi means no long drive on arrival day.
Day 2 Kochi to Munnar
Drive up to Munnar, about 4 to 4.5 hours, with halts at the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls where the road runs right past the water. Afternoon at Blossom Park.
Day 3 Munnar
The full sightseeing loop: boating at Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala Lake, the Tata Tea Museum with its live processing demonstration, and Photo Point. No packing, one base.
Day 4 Munnar to Thekkady
Drive to Thekkady, about 3 to 3.5 hours. A guided spice plantation walk, then an evening Kathakali and Kalaripayattu show.
Day 5 Thekkady to Alleppey
Morning Periyar Lake boat cruise, which we pre-book because seats are limited, then drive to Alleppey, about 4 hours, to board the houseboat. All meals cooked on board.
Day 6 Alleppey to Marari
Disembark and drive to Mararikulam, about 25 minutes, to a quiet fishing-village beach. The afternoon is free on the sand, with no fixed sightseeing.
Day 7 Marari to Kochi
A relaxed morning at the beach, then the drive to Kochi for departure, about 1.5 hours. No early checkout rush.
How rushed is the driving with young children?
On our family routes the longest single drive is about four hours, and most are shorter. The catch is the Munnar and Thekkady hill roads, which are winding, so we break them with halts and keep the youngest child in mind.
Kerala looks compact on a map, but the hill roads are slow. The climb to Munnar is winding and the Thekkady leg has ghat sections, so a 130-kilometre drive can take four hours. We build in stops: the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls on the way up to Munnar are a natural break where children can get out and stretch.
What we tell families to skip, and mean it
With a child under three, skip the dawn wildlife safari and the hill treks, pick one hill station instead of two, add a houseboat day, and keep the beach for the end. It is honest advice that saves you paying for a day nobody enjoys, and it prevents the cancellations that come from an oversold pace.
What do families actually do in Kerala?
Boating, a houseboat night, a spice walk, a tea demonstration, wildlife by boat and a beach day. Most activities suit all ages. A few carry a minimum age or a safety condition, listed below.- Houseboat cruise (Alleppey, Kumarakom): All ages. Decks are open with low railings. We arrange life jackets for young children and ask that toddlers are supervised on deck.
- Periyar Lake boat cruise (Thekkady): All ages, life jackets provided on the boats. Seats are limited and, in some cases, need ID-linked booking, so we book ahead.
- Boating at Mattupetty Dam and pedal boats in Munnar: All ages, calm water, a reliable hit with small children.
- Spice plantation walks (Thekkady): All ages, easy walking, good for curious children who can crush a fresh cardamom pod.
- Elephant interaction at a private centre near Thekkady: Optional. Minimum age is set by the centre.
- Edakkal Caves climb (Wayanad): A genuine climb most school-age children manage. Not for toddlers, and unsafe in heavy rain.
- Karlad Lake ziplines and kayaking (Wayanad): older children only. The operator sets the minimum age and weight.
- Bamboo rafting or a guided nature walks inside the Periyar reserve (Thekkady): The forest department sets a minimum age. Better suited to older children.
- Beaches: Marari is a working fishing-village beach with no resort strip and no lifeguard, so currents can be strong and we advise paddling only for children. Kovalam turns rough from May, and red-flag days are common in the monsoon.
- Athirappilly falls: A viewpoint, not a swim. Rocks are slippery and the flow is heavy in the monsoon, so keep children back from the edge.
When is the best time to visit Kerala with family?
October to March is the most comfortable window for families. School holidays in April, May and December are the busiest and priciest, so book two to three months ahead. The monsoon runs June to September.
| Season | What it means for a family | Price and crowds |
|---|---|---|
| October to March | Cool, dry, best for sightseeing, backwaters, hills and beaches. | Peak season. 20 December to 5 January is the most expensive and books out first. |
| April to May | Hot on the coast, pleasant in the hills. Lines up with the summer school holiday. | Family demand is high in these months even though it is not peak weather. Book early. |
| June to September | Monsoon. Waterfalls are full and the hills are green, but hill roads are slow and Wayanad trails can be unsafe in heavy rain. | Quietest and cheapest. We recommend travel insurance and we monitor hill roads. |
The practical point for parents: the times children are free to travel, the April, May and December holidays, are exactly when the good family properties fill first. For a December trip, enquire by September.

Why book your Kerala family tour with trip2keralam
Because a family trip is a logistics problem, not a brochure. We pace the drives, size the rooms, handle the child-safety details, stay reachable on the ground, and tell you what to skip.
We pace the drives around your youngest traveller
On our longer family routes, no single drive runs over about four hours, and we break the Munnar climb with waterfall halts. We would rather add a night than add a destination that means five hours in the car with a tired child.
We size the rooms before you arrive
Family rooms, connecting rooms or two-bedroom cottages are confirmed for your group in writing, so you are not negotiating an extra bed at the front desk with two children past their bedtime.
We handle the child-safety details
Life jackets on houseboats where there is a toddler, Periyar cruise seats booked ahead, and activity age limits checked with the operator before we put them on your plan.
We are on the ground in Kerala for the whole trip
A local driver who knows the ghat roads, airport pickup and drop, and one coordinator you can reach through the trip. When a child is carsick or a plan needs to move, there is a real person in Kerala on the phone.
We tell you what to skip
We will talk you out of a dawn safari with a two-year-old and out of a sixth destination on a seven-day trip. Honest advice up front is why our families come back and send their relatives.
