Alleppey Tour Packages: Backwaters, Houseboats and Prices

Govt. of India enlistedLocal Kerala teamFull itinerary before payment

Alleppey tour packages run 3 to 10 days, from around Rs. 4,971 per person (standard tier price) for a two-night trip with one houseboat night to about Rs. 8,499 for a week-long backwater and hills circuit. Every package here is quoted at its standard tier, with Deluxe, Premium and Luxury tiers available for the same route. Price moves with nights, hotel category, houseboat class, meal plan and travel season.

One thing to settle before you compare tabs. Alleppey is not a place you base yourself for three nights. The houseboat night is the whole point, and it runs from about midday one day to breakfast the next. The better packages give you a single night afloat and pair it with Munnar, Thekkady or a beach, because a second houseboat night rarely adds anything the first did not. Alleppey sits about 84 km from Kochi airport, so it slots easily into a Kerala loop.

What Does an Alleppey Tour Package Cost?

Alleppey packages start at Rs. 4,971 per person (standard tier price) for a two-night trip with one houseboat night, and reach about Rs. 8,499 for a seven-day circuit. Rates are per person on twin sharing, room with breakfast, land only, as of August 2026.

Prices shown are starting-from rates for the Standard tier and are re-quoted for peak dates: 20 December to 5 January, Onam, and the week of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race in August. Every package also comes in Deluxe, Premium and Luxury tiers for the same route, quoted on request. The houseboat night is quoted on full board because that is how Alleppey operators sell it. Air and rail fare is not included.

Alleppey Houseboat Itinerary, Day by Day (The Two-Night Trip)

This is the Alleppey Backwater Weekender, 2 nights and 3 days, from Rs. 4,971 per person (standard tier price). A lakeside hotel night, a full houseboat night through Kuttanad, and only about two hours of driving each way.

Day 1: Arriving in Alleppey

Kochi pickup, drive to Alleppey in roughly two hours on the NH66, check in at a lakeside hotel, then the evening at Alleppey Beach and the old pier. The high point is the 1862 pier at Alleppey Beach, left over from when this was a working port.

Day 2: Boarding the houseboat at Punnamada

Check out and board a deluxe houseboat around midday. You cruise Vembanad Lake, the narrow Kainakary canals and the Kuttanad paddy polders, watch village life along the bunds, and anchor for sunset. All meals are cooked on board. Casting off from Punnamada with lunch already cooking is the moment people remember.

Day 3: Disembark and back to Kochi

Disembark after breakfast, with a short stop at Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple or Marari Beach, then the drive to Kochi for drop. Ambalappuzha follows a traditional dress code and restricts entry for non-Hindus, so we brief you the day before.

Ready to Book Your Houseboat Night?

Send us your travel dates and group size on WhatsApp or the enquiry form. Our Kerala team calls you, sends the full day-by-day plan with the exact price, and swaps the hotel, the boat class or the boarding point until it fits. A 50 percent advance holds the room and the houseboat.

How Does the Six-Day Golden Circuit Run, Day by Day?

This is the Kerala Golden Circuit, 5 nights and 6 days, from Rs. 7,991 per person (standard tier price). It pairs Alleppey's houseboat night with Fort Kochi, Munnar and Thekkady, with a Kochi night on arrival so you are not driving on your flight day.

Day 1: Fort Kochi, five centuries of trade in one walk

Kochi pickup, a Fort Kochi walk covering the Chinese fishing nets, St Francis Church and Mattancherry Palace, then an evening Kathakali show. The Chinese fishing nets at dusk, still worked by hand by teams of four, are the sight of the day.

Day 2: Climbing to Munnar through the waterfall country

Drive to Munnar with waterfall halts at Cheeyappara and Valara, and an afternoon at Pothamedu viewpoint. The Cheeyappara and Valara stretch, where the road runs right past the water, is the reason to keep the camera handy.

Day 3: Munnar sightseeing, dams, viewpoints and tea estates

A full day covering Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala Lake, Top Station, the Tea Museum and Photo Point. Get to Top Station early, before the mist closes in and takes the view with it.

Day 4: Thekkady, spice plantations and an evening of Kalari

Drive to Thekkady, a spice plantation walk at Kumily, then an evening of Kathakali and Kalaripayattu. Crushing a fresh cardamom pod in your hand at the plantation is nothing like the shop version.

Day 5: Boarding the houseboat at Alleppey

An early Periyar Lake cruise, the drive to Alleppey, then boarding the houseboat with all meals on board. Anchoring for sunset in a quiet canal, with dinner being cooked a few feet away, is the payoff for the week.

Day 6: Disembarking and the onward drive

Disembark after breakfast on the water, then the drive to Kochi for drop. A calm last morning before the transfer, with no early-checkout rush.

Want This Route Built Around Your Dates?

Not every trip fits a fixed package. Tell our on-ground team what you want to see and how many nights you have, and we build the route around it, including which airport you fly into and out of. Message us on WhatsApp to start, and we send a full itinerary with the exact price before you pay anything.

A note on the houseboat: Boarding is around midday and cruising stops near 5:30 pm, when boats anchor for the night, since houseboats are not permitted to move after dark. On most standard boats the air-conditioning runs at night only, roughly 9 pm to 6 am, to keep fuel costs down. We tell you this before you book, and put you on a full-AC or upper-deck boat if you want one.

What Is Included, and What Is Not?

Every package covers your stay, breakfast, a private AC car with a local driver, entry tickets for the named sights, and airport or station transfers. The houseboat night is full board. Lunches, dinners on hotel days and extra activities are not.

Included

  • Hotel or resort stay on twin sharing, room with daily breakfast
  • One houseboat night on full board where the itinerary has one: welcome drink, lunch, evening tea with snacks, dinner and next-morning breakfast
  • Private AC vehicle for all transfers and sightseeing in the itinerary
  • Local driver-cum-guide who knows the backwater and hill routes
  • Fuel, toll, parking, inter-state permit and driver allowance
  • Entry tickets and ride charges for the sights named in your day plan
  • Airport or railway station pickup and drop
  • 24x7 on-ground help from the trip2keralam team in Kerala

Not included

  • Air and rail fare
  • Lunch and dinner on hotel days, since only the houseboat night is full board
  • A shikara ride, canoe village tour or any activity paid direct and not named in your day plan
  • Wildlife safaris, bamboo rafting and adventure activities unless listed
  • Ayurveda and spa, camera fees, tips and personal spends
  • GST as applicable on tour packages
  • On couple packages, room decoration, a welcome cake and one candlelight dinner, unless requested
  • Anything not listed under inclusions

Why Book Your Alleppey Tour Package With trip2keralam

We are a Kerala-based team that runs these backwater routes ourselves, so the plan matches how Alleppey actually travels, not how a stock listing describes it.

We book the houseboats ourselves, not through a portal

We deal with the Punnamada operators directly, so we know which boats have an upper deck, which run air-conditioning at night only and which run it full-day, and which crews actually cook karimeen fresh rather than reheat it. You get an honest match to your budget.

We put you on a quieter jetty

Alleppey has several boarding points. Dozens of boats leave the Finishing Point together in the late morning and cruise the same stretch nose to tail. We board you where the canals stay quieter, so your afternoon does not feel like a traffic jam on water.

One houseboat night, honestly

We will not sell you two houseboat nights when one is the experience. If you have a spare night, we would rather add a Marari beach afternoon or a first-light Kumarakom bird walk. We would rather lose the upsell than pad the trip.

We brief you on temple and dress-code rules

Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple follows a traditional dress code and restricts entry for non-Hindus, and other temples nearby have their own rules. We tell you the day before so nobody is turned away at the gate in the heat.

One coordinator for the whole trip

Your driver meets you at Kochi airport and a single coordinator stays reachable start to finish. If an operator swaps a boat or a canal is closed for weed clearing, one person sorts it out, not a call centre.

Alleppey at a Glance: Distances, Season and Key Terms

Quick reference for planning. The named places, distances and local terms you will meet on an Alleppey trip.
  • Location: Alappuzha, a coastal town on the Laccadive Sea in central Kerala, at the heart of the Kuttanad backwater region. Long called the Venice of the East for its canals.
  • Altitude: Sea level. Parts of neighbouring Kuttanad lie below sea level, farmed behind earth bunds.
  • Nearest airport: Cochin International Airport (COK) at Nedumbassery, about 84 km, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road.
  • Nearest railway: Alappuzha railway station, in the town, on the coastal line to Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram.
  • Drive from Kochi: About 53 km from Kochi city and around two hours from the airport on the NH66.
  • Vembanad Lake: Kerala's largest lake and India's longest, the water body most houseboat cruises run on.
  • Kuttanad: A below-sea-level farming region of paddy polders, canals and bunds, known as the rice bowl of Kerala.
  • Punnamada: The backwater stretch and main houseboat boarding area, and the venue of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race.
  • Nehru Trophy Boat Race: The snake-boat race on Punnamada Lake, held on the second Saturday of August.
  • Kettuvallam: The Kerala houseboat, a converted rice barge of wood and coir, now fitted with bedrooms and a kitchen.
  • Shikara: A small covered motorboat used for short canal cruises where a full houseboat cannot go.
  • Alleppey Beach: A town beach with a 137-year-old pier from Alleppey's port days, best at sunset.
  • Ambalappuzha: A temple town near Alleppey, known for its Sree Krishna Temple and its milk-payasam offering.
  • Best months: November to February for clear, dry cruising weather. October and March are good shoulder months.

How Do Booking and Cancellation Work?

Booking takes a 50 percent advance to hold your hotel, houseboat and cab, with the balance before or on arrival. Changes need 30 days' written notice. Inside 30 days, the package amount is retained in full.

How booking works

  • Enquire by form or WhatsApp with a package, or a description of the trip you want.
  • Our Kerala team calls you, then sends a full day-by-day itinerary with the exact price.
  • You swap hotels, places, the boat class or nights until the plan fits.
  • A 50 percent advance confirms the booking and locks the hotels, houseboat and cab.
  • The balance is due before departure or on arrival, paid by bank wire transfer.
  • Your driver meets you at the airport or station, and a coordinator stays reachable through the trip.

Cancellation

  • Changes and cancellations must reach us in writing at least 30 days before check-in, and stay subject to hotel and houseboat availability.
  • Inside 30 days, no amendment, postponement or cancellation is possible, and the full package value is retained.
  • Bookings travelling between 20 December and 5 January are non-refundable, because hotels and houseboats charge peak rates under their own no-refund terms.
  • No refund applies to no-shows, unused nights or an early checkout.
  • Houseboat, hotel and activity components follow the operator's own cancellation rules in peak season.
  • For monsoon travel between June and September, travel insurance is recommended and road conditions are monitored.

Alleppey Tour Package FAQs

How much does an Alleppey tour package cost?

A two-night Alleppey trip with one houseboat night starts near Rs. 4,971 per person (standard tier price) on twin sharing, room with breakfast, land only, as of August 2026. Adding Munnar and Thekkady takes it to about Rs. 6,456 to Rs. 6,998, and a full week ending at a beach or Kovalam reaches about Rs. 8,499, all at the standard tier, with Deluxe, Premium and Luxury tiers quoted higher. Air fare, lunches and extra activities sit outside these rates.

Is one night on a houseboat enough?

Yes, for almost everyone. You board around midday, cruise the lake and canals all afternoon, anchor for sunset, eat dinner and breakfast on board and disembark by 9 am. That is the full houseboat experience. A second night usually repeats the same stretch of water, so we suggest a beach or a lakeside resort instead if you have a spare night.

Which is the best month to visit Alleppey?
November to February is best, with dry, clear weather and comfortable days for cruising. October and March are good shoulder months with smaller crowds. August draws visitors for the Nehru Trophy Boat Race but rooms and boats are dearer and booked out early. The monsoon, June to September, is green and cheap but often grey on the water.
How far is Alleppey from Kochi airport?
Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery is about 84 km from Alleppey, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by road on the NH66. From Kochi city it is closer to 53 km. Alappuzha also has its own railway station in the town, on the coastal line, which is handy if you are arriving by train from elsewhere in Kerala.
Is Alleppey worth visiting in the monsoon?
It depends on what you want. June to September brings full canals, deep green paddy and the lowest houseboat rates of the year. The trade-off is grey skies and rain that can flatten the views and cut short deck time. Unlike the hill stations, there is no landslide risk here, so a monsoon houseboat is safe, just wetter. Carry travel insurance and keep the plan flexible.
What is included on an Alleppey houseboat package?

The houseboat night is full board: welcome drink, lunch, evening tea with snacks, dinner and next-morning breakfast, all cooked on board. Hotel nights are room with breakfast only. Packages also include a private AC car with a local driver, transfers, and entry tickets for the named sights. Air fare, lunches on hotel days, and activities paid directly are not included.

Is an Alleppey package good for families with children?
Yes, with one caution. Children love the houseboat, the open deck and the village life along the canals. Because the decks are open with low railings, we brief families with toddlers and arrange life jackets. For a family week we like the routes that end at Marari beach or add a Kumarakom resort, so children get unstructured time rather than back-to-back sightseeing.
Is Alleppey good for a honeymoon?
Yes. A private premium houseboat, boarded at midday, gives a couple the afternoon, the sunset and dinner alone on the water, which few destinations match. Our honeymoon route adds flower-bed decoration, a candlelight dinner and hill nights at Munnar and Thekkady around the cruise. Book November to February for the clearest evenings and calmest water.
What are the best places to see in and around Alleppey?
On the water, Vembanad Lake, the Kainakary canals and the Kuttanad polders are the highlights. On land, Alleppey Beach and its old pier, the Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple and, in August, the Nehru Trophy Boat Race at Punnamada. Nearby, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary and Marari beach pair naturally with a houseboat night and are worth an extra day.
Can I customize the package or change the hotels or boat?
Yes. Every package is a starting point. After you enquire, our team sends a full itinerary with the exact price, and you swap hotels, change the houseboat class, move the boarding point, add or drop nights, or re-sequence the days until it fits. The price is re-quoted for the category you finally confirm, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
