Kerala Tour Packages from Chennai
Our standard Kerala tour packages from Chennai start from Rs.3,108 per person for a 2 nights and 3 days weekend and run up to a 9 nights and 10 days grand tour from Rs.14,999, standard package, land only on twin sharing. A one-hour flight or an overnight train makes even a short Kerala trip worth booking.
Chennai is one of the easiest cities in India to leave for Kerala. You can board a train after work and step off at Ernakulam by breakfast, or take a nonstop flight that lands in Kochi in about an hour and ten minutes. That closeness changes what is worth booking. If you are comparing Kerala tour packages from Chennai, you are not forced into a week off just to justify the journey.
We are trip2keralam, a Kerala-based team that runs these routes ourselves. This page is built around what a Chennai traveller can actually do, from a two-night weekend in the hills to a five-night circuit, rather than a generic Kerala list with your city stamped on it. Everything you see is a land-only rate, per person on twin sharing, straight from the rate sheet we quote from.
Below are four durations that make sense from Chennai. One is marked as the trip we recommend and written out day by day. You will also see exactly what the price covers and what it leaves out.
A short trip does mean a short trip. Two nights lets you do one thing well, either the tea estates at Munnar or a houseboat on the backwaters, not the full circuit. We say so on each option below so you book the length that matches what you came for.

Why Visit Kerala from Chennai?
For a Chennai traveller, Kerala is the closest full change of scene, and it is easy to reach. Here is why it works so well from here:
Green hills within reach
You leave a flat, hot coastal city and by lunch you are in cool estate country with food built on coconut.
A one-hour flight
Nonstop flights to Kochi run about an hour and ten minutes (as of September 2026) on IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express and Akasa Air, with several a day, so the travel penalty that kills short trips from far cities barely applies here.
An overnight train far cities do not have
The Trivandrum Mail and the Alappuzha Express leave Chennai in the evening and reach Ernakulam in roughly 11 to 12 hours, so you sleep on the way and save a hotel night.
The drive stays open too
Kerala is about 700 kilometres by road, with Madurai as a natural halfway halt, handy if you want to start with Thekkady.
Short trips that pay off
Because the journey is short, a two or three night weekend is worth booking here, not just a full week.
A simple loop back to Kochi
We build most Chennai routes to return to your arrival point, so the ticket stays simple and you skip a one-way drop across the state that a short trip does not need.
Most Popular Kerala Package from Chennai with Trip Cost
Our most-booked trip from Chennai is the 4 nights and 5 days Kerala Classic at Rs.6,456 per person, twin sharing, land only. It covers the core of the state in one loop: two nights in Munnar for the tea estates at around 1,600 metres, a night in Thekkady for the spice plantations and the Periyar Lake cruise, and a full houseboat night on the Alleppey backwaters before you head back to Kochi. Here is why it is the one we point most Chennai travellers to:
- Four nights goes further from here: the short hop from Chennai means you lose almost no time to travel, so four nights already buys hills, spice and backwaters with nothing rushed.
- It loops back to Kochi: you start and finish at the same airport or station, so a return flight or a round trip on the overnight train fits cleanly, with no long one-way transfer at the end.
- The pacing is tested, not cramped: two nights in Munnar give you a full sightseeing day, the drives are broken sensibly, and every stop earns its place.
- The price is honest: Rs.6,456 is land only on twin sharing (standard package), with the houseboat full board already built in, so there is little left to pay at the gate.
Compare the four durations that work from Chennai
| Duration | Route (nights per stop) | Standard price(PP) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2N / 3D Munnar and Alleppey Express | Kochi > Munnar (1N) > Alleppey houseboat (1N) > Kochi | Rs.4,913 | A weekend that still gets you both hills and a houseboat |
| 3N / 4D Munnar and Alleppey Houseboat Escape | Kochi > Munnar (2N) > Alleppey houseboat (1N) > Kochi | Rs.5,962 | The same two experiences at a calmer pace |
| 4N / 5D Kerala Classic (Recommended) | Kochi > Munnar (2N) > Thekkady (1N) > Alleppey houseboat (1N) > Kochi | Rs.6,456 | The full core of Kerala on a short trip from Chennai |
| 5N / 6D Kerala Golden Circuit | Kochi (1N) > Munnar (2N) > Thekkady (1N) > Alleppey houseboat (1N) > Kochi | Rs.7,991 | The classic route with a Fort Kochi day added up front |
Here is what each step up actually buys. The 2 nights and 3 days Munnar and Alleppey Express is the tightest version, and we will be plain about the cost: Day 2 is close to five hours in the car as you drop from Munnar to Alleppey, so it suits people who do not mind a driving day and want both signature experiences in one weekend.
The 3 nights and 4 days Houseboat Escape fixes that by giving Munnar two nights, so you settle in and take the sightseeing loop at a proper pace before the houseboat. The 4 nights and 5 days Kerala Classic adds Thekkady, the spice hills and the Periyar Lake cruise, which is the piece that turns a hills-and-backwater break into a rounded Kerala trip. The 5 nights and 6 days Golden Circuit holds a Kochi night at the start, so your arrival day is a Fort Kochi walk instead of a long drive straight off the train or flight.
Day by day: the 4 nights and 5 days route
Day 1 Kochi to Munnar through waterfall country
We pick you up at Kochi airport or Ernakulam station and drive up to Munnar, roughly four hours, with halts at the Cheeyappara and Valara falls where the road runs right beside the water. You check in by afternoon and the estate roads are yours for the evening. Overnight in Munnar.
Day 2 Munnar: dams, viewpoints and tea estates
A full local day around Munnar: Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala Lake, Top Station, the Tata Tea Museum and Photo Point. Do Top Station early, before the mist rolls in and takes the view with it. Overnight in Munnar.
Day 3 Down to Thekkady and an evening of Kalari
A drive through the cardamom hills to Thekkady, then a guided spice plantation walk at Kumily and an evening Kathakali and Kalaripayattu show. Pinch a green cardamom pod open on the walk and the smell is a world away from anything in a supermarket jar. Overnight in Thekkady.
Day 4 Periyar cruise, then boarding the houseboat at Alleppey
An early boat cruise on Periyar Lake, when the animals are still coming down to drink, then the drive to Alleppey to board your houseboat around midday. Lunch comes out as the boat pulls away, the afternoon eases through the Kuttanad canals, and you tie up for sunset with dinner cooked on deck. All meals on the boat are included. Overnight on the houseboat.
Day 5 Breakfast on the water, then home
Breakfast is served on the boat before you disembark in the morning. We then drive you back to Kochi for your flight or train home. If you are on the evening train, we plan the last morning so there is no rush to the platform.
Like this route but want it over three nights, or with a private houseboat instead of a shared one? Tell us how you travel and we will rework the days and re-quote, with no obligation.
Types of Kerala Packages from Chennai?
Kerala Family Tour Packages
For families short on time, the 3 nights and 4 days Kochi and Munnar Family Getaway keeps it gentle: a night in Kochi, two nights in Munnar and no long transfer. It is the easiest first Kerala trip for anyone travelling with small children or grandparents. When you have a night more, the 4 nights and 5 days Kochi, Munnar and Alleppey Family Trail adds a houseboat night with meals cooked on board which children usually take to more than any museum.
Kerala Honeymoon Packages
The 3 nights and 4 days Misty Munnar and Houseboat Romance gives couples two nights in the tea hills and a private houseboat charter on the backwaters with the boat booked for the two of you rather than shared. For a night more, the 4 nights and 5 days Hills, Spice and Houseboat Romance adds Thekkady's spice country and the Periyar cruise. In December and January the estate evenings in Munnar turn properly cold, which suits most couples.
Kerala Budget Packages
This is where Chennai's closeness pays off. The 2 nights and 3 days Kovalam Beach Unwind which offers a beach weekend twenty minutes from Trivandrum airport, and the 2 nights and 3 days Munnar Tea Trails Weekend Break is excellent for the hills. From a far city those numbers would be swallowed by airfare. From Chennai a real Kerala weekend at this price is an honest option. All budget quotes are land only on standard hotels, so the way to keep the total down is to travel outside the December to January peak.
Kerala Adventure Tour Package
For wildlife and walking, the 2 nights and 3 days Thekkady Spice Trail and Periyar Wildlife Break covers the early Periyar Lake cruise, a spice plantation walk and an optional bamboo raft or border hike. Thekkady is one Kerala corner that Chennai travellers can also reach by road through Madurai, which some prefer. For more highland time, the 4 nights and 5 days Vagamon and Thekkady Highland Escape runs the pine meadows of Vagamon and the cardamom hills. Trails and cruises run best in the drier months, roughly October to March.
Kerala Luxury Tour Package
The comfort versions run similar routes with premium-category resorts and a private houseboat charter. The 5 nights and 6 days Tea Hills, Houseboat and Poovar Island pairs Munnar and a private houseboat with two nights at an island resort near Poovar. Above that, deluxe, 4-star and premium resort upgrades are quoted per booking, so tell us the category you want and we will price the exact stays rather than a vague band.
Kerala Group Tour Packages
The same circuits run for bigger groups, joint families, friends travelling together or small office trips, with the vehicle sized to the party and a per-head rate that usually eases as the group grows. We quote group pricing and the vehicle against your exact headcount and dates.

Kerala Trip Cost from Chennai?
Here is the full price ladder, per person on twin sharing, land only. Figures are current rate-sheet starting rates as of August 2026 and are confirmed against your dates before booking. Kerala tour packages from Chennai price by duration

|---|---|---|
| 2N / 3D | One base: a beach, a hill station or an Alleppey houseboat | Rs.3,108 |
| 3N / 4D | Two spots, usually a hill station plus the backwaters or the coast | Rs. 4,134 |
| 4N / 5D | The core circuit: Munnar, Thekkady and an Alleppey houseboat | Rs.6,479 |
| 5N / 6D | The classic circuit with a Kochi or extra hill night added | Rs.6,499 |

The four short durations at the top are the ones we actually recommend from Chennai, with the 4 nights and 5 days Kerala Classic at Rs. 6,456 as the pick. The longer routes are here if you want them, but from a short-haul city like Chennai most travellers get what they came for inside five or six days.
Two costs sit on top. Travel from Chennai is separate, since every price is land only, whether you fly or take the train, and GST applies at the current slab. To confirm a booking we take 50 percent of the package amount, with the balance due before departure or on arrival. Rates move on peak dates, roughly 20 December to 5 January, Onam, Christmas, New Year and long weekends, and we flag that before you pay. Room and meal-plan upgrades, from bed and breakfast to half or full board, are re-quoted per booking.
Best Time to Visit Kerala
Treat these as planning notes; we confirm the current picture when you book. Timings are indicative as of September 2026.
- September to March: the main window and the one we plan most Chennai trips into, with comfortable weather across the hills and backwaters.
- November to February: the coolest, clearest stretch in Munnar and the calmest sea if you add a Kovalam beach weekend.
- December to January: cold and clear in the tea hills, which most travellers enjoy, but also the peak-price window from 20 December to 5 January, so book two to three months ahead.
- April and May: this is when Chennai turns fiercest, which is exactly why a hill trip to Munnar or Vagamon appeals, though the coast stays hot and humid.
- June to September: the monsoon, green and cheaper and the traditional season for Ayurveda, but a heavy-rain day can reshuffle a plan and some hill trails close, so we build a little slack into these trips.
Top Attractions Covered in Chennai to Kerala Holiday Packages
What the featured routes actually put in front of you:- Munnar: Tea estates at around 1,600 metres, Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Top Station, Kundala Lake and the Tata Tea Museum.
- Thekkady and Periyar: A spice plantation walks at Kumily, the early Periyar Lake boat cruise inside the tiger reserve, and a Kalaripayattu performance.
- Alleppey backwaters: an overnight houseboat through the Kuttanad canals and Vembanad Lake, with every meal cooked on board.
- Fort Kochi (5N/6D route): the Chinese fishing nets, St Francis Church, Mattancherry Palace and an evening Kathakali show in the old port.
- Vagamon and Poovar (highland and luxury routes): pine meadows and cardamom hills at Vagamon, and a quiet backwater island near Poovar.
- Kovalam (budget weekend): three crescent beaches below the Vizhinjam lighthouse, twenty minutes from Trivandrum airport.
