Thekkady Tour Packages
Thekkady tour packages run 2 to 10 days. A Thekkady-only spice and wildlife break starts near ₹3,977 per person (standard tier price), while circuits that pair it with Munnar, an Alleppey houseboat and a beach reach about ₹9,499. Every package here is quoted at its standard tier, with Deluxe, Premium and Luxury tiers available for the same route. Price moves with nights, hotel category, meal plan and how many places you add. (Prices as of August 2026.)
One thing shapes how you plan Thekkady. It is close, about 140 km and four hours from Kochi, and for most travellers it is a one-night stop rather than a base. The reason to come is the early Periyar Lake cruise and the spice plantations, and both fit into a single full day. Pair Thekkady with Munnar, four hours north, and you have the tightest good trip in Kerala.
What Do Thekkady Tour Packages Cost?
Thekkady packages start at ₹3,977 per person (standard tier price) for a 2 night spice and wildlife break and reach about ₹9,499 for a 7 night circuit that adds Munnar, a houseboat, a beach and Kanyakumari. Rates are per person on twin sharing, room with breakfast, land only, as of August 2026. Prices shown are starting-from rates for the Standard tier and are re-quoted for peak dates (20 December to 5 January, Onam, Christmas and New Year). Every package also comes in Deluxe, Premium and Luxury tiers for the same route, quoted on request. Air and rail fare is not included. The early Periyar Lake cruise is included wherever the itinerary names it. Forest safaris and bamboo rafting are booked on the ground and paid direct.

Thekkady Tour Itinerary, Day By Day (the Recommended Hill Route)
This is the Munnar and Thekkady Hill Classic, 3 nights and 4 days, from ₹4,981 per person (standard tier price). Two full nights in Munnar, one in Thekkady, and the Periyar cruise before you leave. No houseboat, which is why it is the best-value route on the page.
Day 1: Climbing to Munnar through the waterfall country. Kochi pickup and the drive up through the Cheeyappara and Valara falls stretch, where the road runs right past the water, then check in at Munnar with the evening free.
Day 2: Munnar sightseeing, dams, viewpoints and tea estates. Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala Lake, the Top Station viewpoint, the Tata Tea Museum and Photo Point. Take Top Station early, before the mist closes in and takes the view with it.
Day 3: Into the cardamom hills at Thekkady. The drive to Thekkady through the spice belt, an afternoon spice plantation walk at Kumily, and an evening Kathakali and Kalaripayattu show. Crushing a fresh cardamom pod at the plantation is nothing like the shop version.
Day 4: Periyar Lake cruise and onward. The early Periyar Lake boat cruise, the best window for elephants, gaur and sambar at the water, then the drive to Kochi or Madurai for drop.

This is the Kerala Classic: Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey package, 4 nights and 5 days, from ₹6,456 per person (standard tier price). It adds the houseboat the hill route leaves out, taking you from tea country at 1,600 metres down to the backwaters below sea level.
Day 1: Climbing to Munnar through the waterfall country. Kochi pickup, the drive to Munnar with halts at Cheeyappara and Valara falls, and check-in.
Day 2: Munnar sightseeing, dams, viewpoints and tea estates. Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala Lake, the Top Station viewpoint, the Tea Museum and Photo Point in a full day.
Day 3: Thekkady, spice plantations and an evening of Kalari. The drive to Thekkady through the cardamom hills, the plantation walk at Kumily, and the evening Kathakali and Kalaripayattu show.
Day 4: Boarding the houseboat at Alleppey. The early Periyar Lake cruise, then the drive to Alleppey to board the houseboat and cruise Vembanad Lake and the Kuttanad canals, with all meals on board. Anchoring for sunset in a canal, with dinner cooked as you go, is the point of the night.
Day 5: Disembarking and the onward drive. Breakfast on the water, disembark, then the drive to Kochi for drop.
Plan a Custom Thekkady Route
Not every trip fits a fixed package. Tell our on-ground team what you want to see and how long you have, and we build the route around it, including whether you fly in and out of Kochi or drop at Madurai for Tamil Nadu. Message us on WhatsApp to start.
A Note: We include the Periyar Lake cruise because it is the reason you come, and we book the slot ahead so you get an early boat. Forest safaris, bamboo rafting and the Gavi jeep run on forest-department quotas, timings and ID checks that change, so we book these on the ground and tell you the real cost rather than pad the headline rate.
What Is Included, And What Is Not?
Every package covers your stay on breakfast, a private AC car with a local driver, the Periyar Lake cruise and other entry tickets named in the itinerary, and airport or station transfers. Forest safaris, bamboo rafting, meals beyond breakfast and elephant rides are not included.

Why Book Your Thekkady Tour Package With trip2keralam
We pre-book the Periyar cruise slot
The government boat cruise runs a handful of fixed slots a day and the early boats sell out, especially in season. We book the slot when the forest-department system allows and put you on an early boat, when elephants and gaur are still at the water. Most listings leave the cruise as an add-on you sort out at the gate.
Honest Pacing
Thekkady rewards a single full day: the cruise, the plantation walk and an evening show. We would rather add a night in Munnar or a houseboat than sell you a second night in Kumily you will not use. That honesty is why the hill-classic route is priced the way it is.
We book the plantations and homestays ourselves
We know which Kumily plantation stays are genuinely inside the spice gardens, which hotels face the reserve, and which oversell their rating. You get an honest match to your budget, not a stock listing.
Honest trade-offs before you pay
This is a tiger reserve, but you realistically see elephants, gaur, sambar and birds, not tigers. We say so upfront. If the monsoon has thinned the wildlife or a season works against you, we tell you before booking rather than after.
One coordinator for the whole trip
Your driver meets you at the airport or station and a single coordinator stays reachable start to finish. If a cruise slot shifts or a resort overbooks, one person fixes it, not a call centre.
When Is The Best Time to Visit Thekkady?
The best time to visit Thekkady is October to February, with November and December the coolest and clearest. Wildlife sightings around Periyar Lake are usually better in the drier months. (Season notes as of September 2026.)- Winter (November to February): Cool and clear, roughly 15C to 25C at Kumily's 880 metres. The best window for the cruise, the plantations and evening shows.
- Summer (March to May): Warmer and drier. As the lake shrinks, animals come to the water more predictably, so sightings can actually improve, though afternoons are hot.
- Monsoon (June to September): Green and quiet, with the fewest crowds and the lowest rates. The drive from Kochi holds up better than Wayanad's ghat, but wildlife is harder to spot and heavy-rain days can cut short the boat cruise.
- If you travel in the rains: Keep the plan flexible, take an early cruise slot, and carry travel insurance.
How Many Days Do You Need in Thekkady?
One night is enough for most travellers. A single full day covers the early Periyar cruise, a spice plantation walk and an evening cultural show. Two nights only if you want a forest safari or bamboo rafting as well.
Thekkady is compact. The cruise runs in the morning, the plantations sit minutes from Kumily town, and the Kathakali and Kalaripayattu theatres are in the town itself. Add a second night and you have time for the bamboo rafting or the border hike inside the reserve, or the long jeep safari to Gavi, all of which need a forest-department booking. Beyond two nights, Thekkady becomes one leg of a longer route rather than a base, which is why almost every package pairs it with Munnar and the backwaters.
How Do You Reach Thekkady, And How Far Is It From Kochi?
Thekkady has no airport or railway of its own. The nearest airport is Madurai, about 140 km, with Kochi about 190 to 200 km. The nearest big railhead is Kottayam, about 114 km. From Kochi it is a 4 to 4.5 hour drive.
By air, Cochin International Airport suits anyone touring Kerala, roughly 4 to 4.5 hours away by road through the Idukki hills. Madurai airport in Tamil Nadu is closer at about 140 km and works well if you are combining Kerala with Madurai or Kanyakumari. By train, Kottayam is the practical railhead at about 114 km, then a climb through the tea and cardamom belt. By road, the classic approach from Kochi runs via Kothamangalam and Munnar, or via Kottayam and Kumily. Thekkady and Kumily are the same place for planning, and the reserve gate sits about 4 km from Kumily town.
Is Thekkady Good for a Family or Honeymoon Trip?
Yes to both. Families get the boat cruise, the spice gardens and elephant interactions that suit children. Couples get quiet plantation stays and cool evenings, usually as part of a Munnar and Alleppey honeymoon.
For families, the Periyar cruise is an easy hit with children, the plantation walk is short, and the Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey family route breaks the drives so nobody is worn out. For honeymooners, Thekkady works best as one night inside a Munnar and houseboat trip, with a plantation-view room and an evening Kathakali show. Our honeymoon package adds room touches and a private houseboat. Thekkady on its own is rarely enough for a honeymoon, and we say so rather than stretch it.
