Kerala Tour Packages for 4 Days: Pick the Trip, Not Just the Days

Govt. of India enlistedLocal Kerala teamFull itinerary before payment

Starting from Rs. 4,134 per person, a Kerala tour package for 4 days gives you three nights, enough to pair the tea hills with a backwater houseboat at an easy pace, or to spend all four days deep in one region. Best from October to March.

Why choose a Kerala tour package for 4 days?

Three days in Kerala means one fork in the road: hills or backwaters, rarely both without living in the car. Four days removes that pressure. One more night is enough to do the classic hills-and-houseboat run properly, or to skip the circuit altogether and settle into a single stretch of coast, forest or lake.

That is why we run eight different 3N/4D routes rather than one. A family with elderly parents wants short drives and no treks. A couple on honeymoon wants a private houseboat, not a shared cabin. A birder wants Kumarakom at first light, not a checklist of viewpoints. The right four-day trip depends far more on who is travelling than on the day count.

This page lays out all eight, what each one covers, what it costs and who it suits, so you can pick the trip before you enquire. Every route below is one our on-ground team in Kerala runs and handles end to end, from the airport pickup to the houseboat crew.

Where four days feels tight, it is worth being honest about it. You cannot see the whole state in this time. What you can do is see two things properly, or one thing slowly, and go home rested instead of frazzled.

3 Nights 4 Days Kerala Tour Packages

A 3 nights 4 days Kerala trip has room for two stops without feeling stretched. A common pairing is Munnar's tea hills with Alleppey's backwaters, or a hill station with a stretch of coast. Our on-ground team keeps the drives between them short. Compare the options below.

All prices are per person on twin sharing, land only, on bed and breakfast, as of August 2026 and subject to approval. Houseboat nights on the backwater routes are full board. Peak dates cost more.

The classic first trip: hills and a houseboat

The Munnar and Alleppey Houseboat Escape is the one we suggest most for a first visit. Two nights in Munnar for the tea estates, then a houseboat night on the Kuttanad canals. It covers the two things Kerala is genuinely known for without a rushed third stop.

Hills only, at the lowest price

If you would rather stay in the mountains, the Munnar and Thekkady Hill Classic runs from Munnar's tea estates across the cardamom hills to Thekkady for a spice-plantation walk and the early Periyar Lake cruise. It skips the backwaters on purpose to keep the price down and the driving sensibly. This route can drop you at Madurai instead of Kochi, since Thekkady sits near the Tamil Nadu border.

Families and elderly parents

The Kochi and Munnar Family Getaway is built around short driving days, the longest under four hours, with nothing that needs a trek. Night one is in Kochi, so nobody drives straight to the hills off a flight. For a family that wants water instead of mountains, the Kumarakom, Alleppey and Kochi Backwater Trail gives three different backwater nights, with a full-board houseboat in the middle.

Backwaters without the crowds

Birders and anyone who wants the water at a slower pace should look at the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary and Backwater Break. Two unhurried nights at Kumarakom for the sanctuary at first light and Pathiramanal Island, then one houseboat night. Kumarakom is quieter than Alleppey and better for birds, best from November to March.

Beaches and a coast most people miss

The Kovalam and Poovar Coastal Escape pairs busy, walkable Kovalam with quiet Poovar, where the Neyyar river meets the sea and the resorts sit on an island reached only by boat. It is the cheapest route here and the only one that starts from Trivandrum.

Honeymoons

Two options, depending on the mood. The Misty Munnar and Houseboat Romance gives you a Munnar honeymoon room and a private premium houseboat that is yours alone, rather than a shared cabin. The Wayanad Treehouse and Waterfalls plan keeps you in one treehouse or private-pool cottage for all three nights, driving out each day to Soochipara falls, Edakkal Caves and the Chembra Peak trail with its heart-shaped lake.

What does a 4 Day Kerala trip look like, day by day?

Day 1: Kochi to Munnar, climbing through the waterfall country

  • Pickup at Cochin airport or the railway station, then the climb to Munnar. It is a half-day drive, under four hours, and the last stretch is the good part.
  • The road runs right past the Cheeyappara and Valara falls, so the journey earns its own stop rather than being dead time.
  • Check in, and the evening is yours to settle in.

Overnight: Munnar, hill resort or hotel on bed and breakfast.

Day 2: The full Munnar sightseeing loop

  • A whole day in the tea hills. Boating at Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala Lake and the Tata Tea Museum, where a live demonstration shows how a green leaf becomes the powder in your cup.
  • We aim for Top Station early, because by late morning the mist usually rolls in and takes the view with it.
  • December and January evenings up here are genuinely cold, which most people end up enjoying.

Overnight: Munnar, second night in the same hotel.

Day 3: Down to Alleppey and onto the houseboat

  • A morning drive down from the hills to Alleppey, roughly four hours, then you board the houseboat around midday.
  • That midday boarding is what gives you the full afternoon on the water, the sunset, and dinner cooked on board.
  • The boat drifts through the Kuttanad canals and paddy belt, then anchors for the night. All meals from lunch onward are on the boat.

Overnight: Houseboat on the Alleppey backwaters, full board.

Day 4: Breakfast on the water, then the drive back

  • Breakfast is served as the boat moves, and you disembark after it.
  • From Alleppey it is a straightforward drive to Kochi for your airport or railway drop. No early checkout scramble, no last-minute rush.

Ends at: Kochi (COK) or Ernakulam railway station.

Like this route? Tell us your dates and we will hold the Munnar hotel and the houseboat on your nights, then send the full plan and price.

The other routes run to the same four-day shape. The Kovalam and Poovar Coastal Escape spends its first two nights on the beach at Kovalam, a Trivandrum heritage morning in the middle, then a boat transfer to the Poovar island resort. The Wayanad plan keeps you in one property for all three nights and drives out to the waterfalls and Edakkal Caves each day. Full day-by-day plans for each route sit on their own pages, linked in the table above.

What’s Included & Not Included

The clearer this is, the fewer surprises later. Every route includes the same core. The main variable is whether your route has a houseboat night, which is quoted on full board.

Included on every 4 day package

  • Hotel or resort stay on twin sharing, bed and breakfast: your room plus daily breakfast
  • Houseboat night on full board where the route includes one: welcome drink, lunch, evening tea with snacks, dinner and next-morning breakfast, all cooked on board
  • A private air-conditioned vehicle for every transfer and all sightseeing on the itinerary
  • An experienced local driver cum guide who knows the routes
  • All fuel, toll, parking, inter-state permit and driver allowance
  • Airport or railway station pickup and drop
  • Entry tickets and ride charges for everything named in the day-by-day plan
  • 24x7 on-ground assistance from the trip2keralam team in Kerala

Not included

  • Air and rail fare
  • Lunch and dinner on land days, except where a houseboat full-board night is stated
  • Anything not named in the day-by-day plan, including wildlife safaris, bamboo rafting and adventure activities
  • Ayurveda treatments and spa, camera fees, tips and personal expenses
  • GST as applicable on tour packages

We put the exclusions in plain sight on purpose. A price that hides them is the one that turns into an argument at checkout.

What does a 4 day Kerala trip cost?

Standard-tier prices run from Rs. 4,134 to Rs. 5,962 per person across the eight routes, on twin sharing, land only, as of September 2026. Each route also comes in Deluxe, Premium and Luxury tiers, and here is how they look on our most-booked route, the Munnar and Alleppey Houseboat Escape:
TierFrom (per person)What you get
StandardRs. 5,962Comfortable hotels and a deluxe houseboat, on bed and breakfast
DeluxeRs. 6,956Upgraded hotels and a better class of houseboat
PremiumRs. 7,462Premium hotels and a premium houseboat, prime rooms
LuxuryRs. 8,882Luxury or boutique stays and a private luxury houseboat
What moves the price:
  • Meal plan: bed and breakfast as standard, or breakfast plus dinner (MAP) or all meals (AP)
  • Houseboat type: a shared deluxe boat versus a private premium one
  • Peak dates: 20 December to 5 January, Onam, Christmas, New Year and long weekends
  • Flights: every package works with or without them; add them and we quote current fares
All figures are per person on twin sharing, land only, bed and breakfast (houseboat nights full board), as of August 2026 and subject to approval. GST applies on top, and air or rail fare is separate. These are from-prices, so treat them as a starting point rather than a fixed rate. The firm number comes with your quote, once we know your dates, hotel category and group size.

When is the best time to go for 4 days Kerala trip?

  • October to March is the best time to plan a 4-day Kerala trip.
  • The weather is dry and settled, the backwaters are calm and Munnar mornings are clear before the mist arrives. This is the window we recommend without hesitation, and it is also the busiest, so peak-date rates and stricter hotel cancellation terms apply around Christmas, New Year and Onam.
  • April and May are hot and humid on the coast, though Munnar and Wayanad stay pleasant at altitude, so a hills route still works well.
  • The southwest monsoon runs June to September.
  • It is green and quiet and cheaper, but houseboat cruising can be limited, forest trails like Chembra Peak close in heavy rain, and some viewpoints disappear behind cloud.
  • If you are set on the backwaters or a trek, the dry months are the safer call.

Getting there and where each trip begins

Most of our four-day routes start and end at Cochin airport (COK), which is the practical base for Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppey and Kumarakom. The Kovalam and Poovar coastal route runs out of Trivandrum instead, since the south coast is closer to it. Wayanad has no airport of its own, so guests fly into Kozhikode or Kannur and drive up the Thamarassery ghat with its hairpin bends.

The routes run the way they do for a reason. Munnar before Alleppey means you climb while you are fresh and end on the water, rather than the reverse. Pickup and drop at the airport or railway station are included on every package, so you are met on arrival and driven the whole way.

What to know before you book

The practical detail that saves a bad surprise on the ground.

Houseboat timings.

On the backwater routes you board around midday and disembark after breakfast the next morning. Decks are open and the railings are low, which catches parents out, so we brief you before boarding and arrange life jackets, and we ask that small children are not left on deck unsupervised.

Temple entry, on the coast route.

Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Trivandrum restricts entry to Hindus and enforces a dress code at the gate. We brief you on both before the Trivandrum morning so nobody is turned away. These rules are set by the temple authority, not by us, and they can change.

Treks and boat crossings are weather-dependent.

The Chembra Peak trail in Wayanad runs on forest-department permits that are capped daily, issued on the spot and payable direct, and the trail closes in heavy rain and fire season. Pathiramanal Island at Kumarakom is reached only by boat and access depends on the water level. We treat both as a bonus, not a promise, and plan the day so it works either way.

Suitability

If you are travelling with elderly parents or young children, the Kochi and Munnar Family Getaway is the gentlest, with short drives and no treks. Pack light layers for Munnar and Wayanad, where December and January evenings turn cold.

Your vehicle

The private vehicle is provided as per the itinerary. It is there for your transfers and planned sightseeing, not on disposal for unplanned running through the day.

Why plan your 4 day Kerala trip with trip2keralam

We are based in Kerala and handle these trips end to end, so the person who plans your route is the same one you can call while you are on the road. A few things that follow from that:

Direct houseboat relationships

We work with the operators here directly, so we know which boats suit a family and which are worth the premium for a couple.

Real route knowledge

We know which Kumarakom resorts sit close enough to the sanctuary for a first-light walk, and which viewpoints to reach before the mist or the buses.

Honest about what is not guaranteed

We tell you upfront when something is not certain, like a Chembra trek permit or a Pathiramanal crossing, rather than after you have paid.

Built around you

Every itinerary is customisable, and each package works with or without flights, re-quoted so you see the difference.

A firm quote before you commit

You get a written quote with the room category and meal plan spelled out, before any payment.

On the ground, around the clock

24x7 assistance for the length of the trip, from a team that is actually in the state.

Booking and cancellation

50% of the package amount confirms the booking, and the balance is due before departure or on arrival. Payment is by bank wire transfer to our account, and confirmation follows once we receive it.

Confirmed dates may be changed, shortened or cancelled with 30 days' written notice, subject to availability. Inside 30 days the package amount is retained in full, no-shows are not eligible for a refund, and there is no credit for unused nights or an early departure. Peak-date bookings around 20 December to 5 January may carry stricter hotel cancellation terms, which we confirm at the time of booking.

Is four days the right length for you?

If your dates are tighter, a 3 day Kerala package still fits the hills and one houseboat night, with less room to breathe. If you can spare two more days, a 5 day Kerala package or 6 day Kerala package opens up Thekkady's wildlife or a Wayanad leg without the four-day compromise of choosing one region over another. You can also compare every duration on our Kerala tour packages hub.

Kerala 4 day packages: FAQs

Is 4 days enough for Kerala?
For two regions, yes. Four days is three nights, enough to pair the tea hills with a backwater houseboat, or to spend all of it in one place like Wayanad or the south coast. What it is not enough for is the whole state. Pick two things and do them properly rather than stringing together five stops and living in the car.
Can I do Munnar and an Alleppey houseboat in 4 days?
Yes, and it is our most popular four-day route. Two nights in Munnar for the tea estates and viewpoints, then a morning drive down to Alleppey to board the houseboat around midday for a full-board night on the canals. You disembark after breakfast and drive back to Kochi. No third stop, so nothing feels rushed.
Beach, hills or backwaters, which should I pick for 4 days?
Hills plus a houseboat suit a first Kerala trip and cover the state's two signatures. Families with elderly parents do best on the short-drive Kochi and Munnar route. Birders and slow travellers want Kumarakom. Couples after sun and sand want the Kovalam and Poovar coast. Tell us who is travelling and we will point you to the right one.
Is a private houseboat worth the extra cost?
For a honeymoon or a couple, usually yes. A private premium houseboat is yours alone, with the crew staying out of the way and dinner served on the upper deck, rather than a shared boat with other cabins. The Misty Munnar and Houseboat Romance route is built around exactly that, which is the part most operators quietly skip at the lower price.
What is the cheapest 4 day Kerala package?
The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary and Backwater Break starts from Rs. 4,134 per person, and the Kovalam and Poovar Coastal Escape from Rs. 4,210, both on twin sharing, land only, as of September 2026. Adding a private boat or a higher tier moves the price up. Peak dates cost more, and GST and any flights are separate.
Do we change hotels every night?
It depends on the route. The Wayanad plan keeps you in one property for all three nights, so you unpack once. The classic hills-and-houseboat route has two nights in Munnar and one on the boat. The backwater trails move more, since seeing three different stretches of water is the whole point. Each route's page shows the exact stays.
Which airport should we fly into?
Cochin (COK) for most routes, including Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppey and Kumarakom. Trivandrum for the Kovalam and Poovar coast. Kozhikode or Kannur for Wayanad, since it has no airport of its own. Airport pickup and drop are included on every package, whichever one you use.
How much of each day is spent driving?
Less than you might fear. The Kochi to Munnar climb and the Munnar to Alleppey drop are each about half a day, and the family route keeps its longest drive under four hours. Full sightseeing days, like the Munnar loop or a day out from a single Wayanad base, involve only short local hops between stops.
