Kovalam Tour Packages
Kovalam tour packages run 3 to 10 days. A short beach break starts near Rs 4,951 per person (standard tier price), while longer circuits that add Munnar, a houseboat and other beaches reach Rs 13,449. Every package here is quoted at its standard tier, with Deluxe, Premium and Luxury tiers available for the same route. Price moves with duration, hotel category, season and how many destinations you pair with Kovalam.
Kovalam is a fishing coast turned beach town, about 15 km and 20 minutes from Trivandrum airport. It works two ways: as a two-night beach stop, or as the coastal finish to a full Kerala circuit that starts in the hills. Our on-ground team in Kerala runs both, and this page lays out the real prices, the days each trip needs, and the trade-offs most listings leave out.

How Many Days Do You Need In Kovalam?
Kovalam itself needs two nights: one for the beach and Ayurveda, one for the Trivandrum heritage morning. If you want Kovalam as part of a Kerala trip with hills and backwaters, plan six to eight days.
The town has three crescent beaches strung below a lighthouse, walkable end to end. Two nights lets you swim, eat a seafood dinner, take an Ayurveda session and still cover Trivandrum's temple and palaces without rushing.
The mistake we see is treating Kovalam as a full holiday on its own. It is a finish, not a centre. If you have a week, start in the Munnar hills, come down through Thekkady and a houseboat, and let Kovalam be the slow last two nights. That is why our circuits end on the coast rather than begin there.
When Is The Best Time To Visit Kovalam?
November to February is the best time for the Kovalam beach, with the calmest sea and dry, mild days. June to September brings rough surf and red flags, but is the cheapest season and the traditional time for Ayurveda.
- November to February: the best window. The sea is at its calmest, days are dry and mild, and lifeguards fly green flags on most days. This is peak season, so book hotels early.
- March to May: hot and humid, but the mornings are still swimmable. Fewer crowds and lower rates than the peak window.
- June to September (monsoon): rough surf, stronger currents and frequent red flags, so swimming is often restricted. It is also the cheapest season and the classic Ayurveda time, when the cool, humid air is held to help the body absorb treatment.
- October: a transition month. The sea is settling and rates are still moderate before the peak season opens.
The short version: come between November and February for the beach, and in the monsoon only if your trip is a wellness reset rather than a swimming holiday.
Kovalam Tour Itinerary: Our Recommended 7-Day Route
This is the day-by-day for Best of Kerala, our most-booked Kovalam circuit: Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady, an Alleppey houseboat and two nights finishing at Kovalam. Six nights, seven days, from Rs 8,499 per person (standard tier price).
Day 1: Fort Kochi, five centuries of trade in one walk
Kochi pickup and a Fort Kochi walk covering the Chinese fishing nets, St Francis Church and Mattancherry Palace, with an evening Kathakali show. The Chinese fishing nets at dusk, still worked by hand by teams of four, are the day's highlight.
Day 2: Climbing to Munnar through the waterfall country
Drive to Munnar with halts at the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, then an afternoon at Pothamedu viewpoint. The falls stretch, where the road runs right past the water, is the one to stop for.
Day 3: Munnar sightseeing, dams, viewpoints and tea estates
The full Munnar loop: Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala Lake, Top Station, the Tata Tea Museum and Photo Point. Do Top Station early, before the mist closes in and takes the view with it.
Day 4: Thekkady, spice plantations and an evening of Kalari
Drive to Thekkady, a spice plantation walk at Kumily, and an evening Kathakali and Kalaripayattu show. Crushing a fresh cardamom pod in your hand at the plantation is nothing like the shop version.
Day 5: Boarding the houseboat at Alleppey
An early Periyar Lake cruise, then the drive to Alleppey to board the houseboat, with all meals on board. The boat anchors in a canal for sunset, with dinner cooked on board.
Day 6: Disembarking and the drive to the coast
Disembark after breakfast and drive south to Kovalam by the coastal road, with sunset at Lighthouse Beach. Breakfast on the water, before you step back onto land, is the last of the backwaters.
Day 7: Trivandrum heritage morning
A Trivandrum city round covering Padmanabhaswamy Temple and the Napier Museum, then the drop. Kuthiramalika Palace, with 122 carved wooden horses running along the eaves, is worth the stop.
The single biggest saving on this route is not the hotels. Fly into Kochi and out of Trivandrum. An open-jaw booking removes a full day of driving back north and usually costs no more than a return into one airport. We flag it before you book flights.
Want this 7-day route tuned to your dates, hotel category or a longer beach finish? Send us your travel window on WhatsApp or the enquiry form, and our Kerala team will send a full itinerary with the exact price.
A Shorter Beach Option: Kovalam And Poovar In 4 Days
If you only want the coast, this is the day-by-day for Kovalam and Poovar Coastal Escape: three nights, four days, two contrasting beach stays and a Trivandrum heritage morning, from Rs 4,210 per person (standard tier price).
Day 1: Kovalam and the Arabian Sea
Trivandrum pickup, Kovalam check-in and a Lighthouse Beach sunset. Sunset from below the Vizhinjam lighthouse, with the fishing boats coming in, sets the tone for the trip.
Day 2: Trivandrum heritage morning
A city round covering Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Kuthiramalika Palace and the Napier Museum, with the afternoon free on the beach. The 122 carved wooden horses at Kuthiramalika are the standout.
Day 3: Poovar, boat transfer to the island resort
Drive to Poovar and transfer by boat to an island resort, then an estuary and golden sand bar cruise where the Neyyar river meets the sea. Arriving by boat, because there is no road in at all, is the point of Poovar.
Day 4: Departure
A relaxed final morning at the resort, then the drop at Trivandrum, with no early checkout rush.
One honest note: Padmanabhaswamy Temple restricts entry to Hindus and enforces a strict dress code, so we brief you beforehand rather than let you be turned away at the gate.
Prefer to swap Poovar for Varkala, add a night, or upgrade to a beachfront resort? Tell us what you have in mind and we will rework this coastal trip around it, with the price confirmed in writing before you pay.

Why Book Your Kovalam Tour Package With trip2keralam?
We are a Kerala-based team that runs the trip end to end, publishes real starting prices, and briefs you honestly on season, sea safety and temple rules before you travel.
A team on the ground in Kerala
Your driver meets you at Trivandrum airport or the railway station, and a coordinator stays reachable through the trip. The people planning your route are the people who drive it, so the day-to-day works the way it reads on paper.
Real starting prices, not a quote wall
We publish per-person starting rates for every package (as of August 2026) so you can compare before you enquire, instead of filling a form to find out a trip is out of budget.
We plan the open-jaw flight saving
On any circuit that ends at Kovalam, we tell you to fly into Kochi and out of Trivandrum. That one change removes a full day of backtracking north and usually costs no more than flying in and out of a single airport.
An honest season and safety briefing
We tell you when the Kovalam sea turns rough and red flags fly, when a season beats another, and where crowds build. We also brief the Padmanabhaswamy Temple dress code and entry rules before you arrive, not at the gate.
Houseboat and backwater knowledge that holds up
Houseboat nights are on full board on Vembanad Lake, the way Alleppey and Kumarakom operators actually sell them. We also plan routes around Kerala's ghat roads, so if long hill drives put you off, we can build a water-and-coast trip like Kumarakom to Kovalam with almost no climbing.

- Our Kerala team calls you, then sends a full day-by-day itinerary with the exact price.

- A 50 percent advance confirms the booking and locks the hotels, houseboat and cab, with the balance due before departure or on arrival, paid by bank wire transfer.
- Your driver meets you at the airport or station, and a coordinator stays reachable through the trip.
Cancellation
Changes and cancellations must reach us in writing at least 30 days before check-in, and remain subject to hotel and houseboat availability. For monsoon travel between June and September, we recommend travel insurance and monitor road conditions on hill routes.
