Kerala Tour Packages for 9 Days
Our standard Kerala tour packages for 9 days run from Rs. 10,999 to Rs. 11,999 per person for eight nights, the length where you stop choosing. Keep the classic circuit and slow it right down, or stretch it across the whole state, hills, backwaters and coast, with no single day lost to the road. Eight routes, October to March is the best window.
Seven or eight days makes you pick a lane. You take the familiar Kochi-to-the-coast run and leave out either the far north, the deep south, or a proper second stop. Nine days is where that pressure comes off.
Spend it on pace and you unpack once. Two nights each at Munnar and Thekkady, three at Kumarakom, a free afternoon before the last drive, so nobody in the car is worn out by day five. Spend it on reach instead and you run the full length of the state, from the laterite forts of Bekal down to Kovalam, roughly 1,100 km that almost no packaged trip attempts.
There are separate eight nights and nine days plans here, not one itinerary with a day added. Two are built only for honeymooners, with a private houseboat and a beach at each end. One leaves the tourist trail entirely for Nilambur teak, Vagamon and the Gavi forest. The rest reshape the well-known Kochi to Kovalam spine.
Every route below is run end to end by our team in Kerala, with the per-person price, the start and end airport, and who it suits set out before you enquire. Nine days is enough to see Kerala without hurrying it. It is still one considered line through the state, not the whole of it.

The Kerala nine-day routes, and who each one is for?
Kerala End to End: Kochi to Kovalam (most popular)
The whole state in one line, with nothing that matters left out. Fort Kochi on arrival, Athirappilly for Kerala's biggest waterfall with a riverside night, two nights in Munnar's tea hills, Thekkady for the spice walk and the Periyar cruise, a Kuttanad houseboat, then Kumarakom for the bird sanctuary at first light before the drive to Kovalam. It ends with a Trivandrum morning. From Rs. 10,999 per person.
Kerala Family Explorer
Built so the driving never wears anyone out. Athirappilly falls early on, two nights each at Munnar and Thekkady so you unpack once, a houseboat night, and a free afternoon at Marari beach before a short final run to Kochi. No transfer on the route runs longer than about four hours, and Thekkady's second day gives older children bamboo rafting or a guided nature walk. From Rs. 11,999 per person.
Kerala Backwaters and Beaches: Kumarakom to Kovalam
For anyone who dislikes ghat roads or gets carsick on hairpins, because there is no hill station on it at all. Three nights at Kumarakom on Vembanad Lake, the bird sanctuary at dawn and Pathiramanal Island by boat, then a houseboat night through Kuttanad, two nights at Varkala under the cliff, and Kovalam to close. Short transfers, slow days. From Rs. 10,999 per person.
Kerala Wildlife and Hill Stations
For families who came for forests and falling water rather than the backwaters, though it keeps a houseboat night at the end. Wayanad opens with the Edakkal caves, Soochipara falls and Banasura Sagar, then Athirappilly, two nights in Munnar and two at Thekkady for the Periyar cruise. One honest note, the Day 3 run from Wayanad down to Athirappilly is about six hours. Fly into Kozhikode, out of Kochi. From Rs. 11,999 per person.
North to South Kerala Odyssey: Bekal to Kovalam
The full length of Kerala, roughly 1,100 km from the Kasaragod coast to the southern beaches, with almost no packaged trip attempts. Bekal Fort and the Valiyaparamba backwaters up north, two nights in Wayanad, Fort Kochi, two nights in Munnar, a Kuttanad houseboat and a Kovalam finish. It is driving-heavy by design, so we match it only with people who enjoy the road. Mangalore in, Trivandrum out. From Rs. 11,999 per person.
Offbeat Kerala Deep Dive: Nilambur to Kollam
The Kerala packaged tours never reach, and are among the quietest of the eight. Conolly's Plot at Nilambur, the oldest teak plantation in the world, then Wayanad, Kochi, the Vagamon meadows, the Gavi forest settlement and Thekkady, ending at Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam. There is no houseboat night and no Munnar, and Gavi caps daily numbers, so we confirm it first and build the rest around it. This is a second Kerala trip, not a first. From Rs. 11,999 per person.
Nine Days of Kerala Romance
The classic circuit set up for two, closing on three different coastlines instead of one. Fort Kochi, two nights in Munnar, Thekkady with a couple Ayurveda massage, a private premium houseboat on Vembanad Lake, then a night each at Marari, Varkala and Kovalam. Candlelight dinners and bed decoration at every hotel upon request, and no drive long enough to lose a day. From Rs. 10,999 per person.
Hills, Houseboat, Island and Beach
A honeymoon route that ends on an island reached only by boat. Munnar and Thekkady for the hills, a Kumarakom lakeside night, a private premium houseboat through Kuttanad, then two nights at a Poovar island resort with no road in at all, and a final night at Kovalam. The seclusion is real because the ferry timings are fixed, which is also why arrival needs planning, and we handle that. From Rs. 10,999 per person.

A day-by-day Kerala Itinerary at the classic nine-day route
This is the Kerala End to End route, Kochi to Kovalam, the one most first-timers pick and the clearest way to see how nine days actually unfold. The other seven rearrange these same pieces. Drive times are approximate, and we confirm the exact schedule with your final quote.
Day 1: Fort Kochi on foot
Pickup at Kochi airport or station and check in. The afternoon is Fort Kochi on foot: the Chinese fishing nets worked by hand at the water's edge, St Francis Church, and the streets of the old spice quarter. A Kathakali show in the evening if you want it, paid at the venue. Overnight in Kochi.
Day 2: Athirappilly and the Chalakudy river
A short drive of about an hour and a half brings you to Athirappilly, Kerala's largest waterfall, an eighty-foot curtain of water on the Chalakudy river, with Vazhachal a little upstream. You stay by the river tonight, which is what lets you reach the falls before the day crowd arrives from Kochi. Overnight near Athirappilly.
Day 3: Charpa Falls, then up to Munnar
Charpa Falls in the morning while it is quiet, then the climb into the tea country, roughly four hours, with the Pothamedu viewpoint above Munnar at the end of it. In the wet months the road up passes waterfalls running right beside it. Overnight in Munnar.
Day 4: A full day in the tea hills
No long drive today. Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala Lake and Top Station, with the Tata Tea Museum's live demonstration of how a green leaf becomes the powder in your cup. This second Munnar night is what keeps the hills from feeling like a drive-through. Overnight in Munnar.
Day 5: Down to Thekkady and the spice country
About three and a half hours to Thekkady, and a plantation walk at Kumily where you crush a fresh cardamom pod in your hand, nothing like the shop version. The evening is a Kathakali and Kalaripayattu performance. Overnight in Thekkady.
Day 6: The Periyar cruise, then onto the houseboat
An early boat cruise on Periyar Lake, when animals still come down to the water, then the drive to Alleppey to board your houseboat around midday. Lunch is served as you cast off, the boat moves through the Kuttanad canals past paddy farmed below sea level, and it anchors for sunset with dinner cooked on board. Overnight on the houseboat, full board.
Day 7: Off the water and over to Kumarakom
Breakfast on the boat, then disembark and cross to Kumarakom on Vembanad Lake, a short transfer rather than a long one. The evening is a sunset shikara ride, when the lake goes completely still. Overnight in Kumarakom.
Day 8: The bird sanctuary, then south to the coast
An early walk through the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, best at first light, with darters, herons and kingfishers about and migratory arrivals from November to March. Then the drive south to Kovalam, about four hours, in time for sunset at Lighthouse Beach. Overnight in Kovalam.
Day 9: A Trivandrum morning, then home
A short city round in Trivandrum, the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the Napier Museum and the Kuthiramalika Palace with its 122 carved wooden horses along the eaves. Drop at Trivandrum airport or railway station. Trip ends.
Want this route reversed to start at the coast, or a hill night swapped for a second houseboat? Tell us your dates and we will rebuild it and quote the exact figure before you decide anything.
What does a 9-day Kerala trip cost per person?
Our 9-day Kerala package price starts at Rs. 10,999 per person on the Standard tier and rises with the route and the tier you choose. Every Standard from-price is twin sharing, land only, on room with breakfast, as of September 2026 and subject to approval. Every route also comes in Deluxe, Premium and Luxury tiers, and here is how they price on our most-booked route, Kerala End to End, Kochi to Kovalam:
| Tier | From (per person) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Rs. 10,999 | Comfortable hotels and a deluxe houseboat, on bed and breakfast |
| Deluxe | Rs. 11,999 | Upgraded hotels and a better class of houseboat |
| Premium | Rs. 12,999 | Premium hotels and a premium houseboat, prime rooms |
| Luxury | Rs. 14,499 | Luxury or boutique stays and a private luxury houseboat |
What moves the number: your hotel tier, whether the houseboat is shared or a private premium one, your meal plan if you go beyond breakfast, an extra bed or single supplement, group size, and the travel date. Rates step up over the peak run of 20 December to 5 January, and around Onam, Christmas and New Year. Air and rail fare and GST sit outside the package. We quote the all-in per-person figure before you commit, so the number you see is the number you pay.
When is the best time to visit Kerala for a 9-day trip?
For a nine-day route that crosses hills, backwaters and coast, October to March is the short answer. Here is how the year breaks down:- October to March is the window we point almost everyone to. Dry days, cool hill mornings, calm backwaters and easy roads across every region a nine-day route touches.
- December and early January bring the best weather and the biggest crowds and rates at once. Rooms and houseboats fill weeks ahead over the 20 December to 5 January stretch, so book early.
- February and March stay dry and warm up gently, with thinner crowds and better value before the summer heat.
- April and May are hot and humid on the coast and the backwaters, though Munnar and Wayanad hold their cool. A hills-heavy route handles this season better than a beach one.
- June to September is the southwest monsoon: green, quiet and cheaper, with Athirappilly and Soochipara at full force. Houseboats still run, but the odd plan shifts for weather and hill viewpoints turn misty.
- For specific stops, migratory birds at Kumarakom arrive from November to March, and the Gavi trek and the Poovar island transfers run best in the dry months. We check the exact dates for your trip.
Which airports should you fly into and out of?
Most nine-day routes begin at Cochin International Airport (COK), the busiest in the state and the easiest to reach from the rest of India. The wildlife and offbeat routes start at Kozhikode (CCJ), and the Bekal route starts at Mangalore (IXE). Endpoints vary: the classic, backwaters and honeymoon routes finish near Trivandrum (TRV), while the family and wildlife routes loop back to Kochi.
Where a route starts and ends in different cities, we push the open-jaw booking. Fly into one airport and out of the other and your final day is a slow morning, not a long drive back to where you began. A one-way-each ticket usually costs about the same as a return into a single airport. Pickup and drop are included at both ends.
Things worth knowing before you book
Houseboat timing
On routes with a houseboat, you board around midday, lunch is the first meal aboard, and you step off after breakfast the next morning. The boat anchors overnight rather than cruising in the dark, which is a waterways rule, not a limit of the boat.
One route has no houseboat
The Offbeat Deep Dive is built around Nilambur, Vagamon and Gavi, with no backwater night and no Munnar. If a houseboat is the reason you are coming, pick one of the other seven.
The long drive days
The Backwaters and Family routes keep every transfer short. The Wildlife route has a six-hour Day 3 from Wayanad to Athirappilly, and the North to South Odyssey covers about 1,100 km across the trip. If anyone tires on long roads, let that steer your route more than the price does.
Gavi needs booking ahead
Gavi is run by the Kerala Forest Development Corporation with capped daily numbers and limited rooms, so on the Offbeat route we confirm Gavi first and build the rest of the trip around it. Leave it late and the dates may not hold.
Poovar is reached only by boat
On the island route the resort runs its own ferry across the estuary on fixed timings, which is what keeps it quiet. Tell us your arrival time and we plan the crossing around it.
Temple entry has rules set by the temple, not by us
The Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Trivandrum has its own dress code, and some temples restrict entry. We brief you before each stop.
What to pack
Light cottons for the coast and backwaters, a layer for cool Munnar and Wayanad evenings, and something modest for temple visits. In the monsoon months add a rain layer and grippy shoes for wet viewpoints.
Elderly travellers and young children
The Family Explorer and the Backwaters and Beaches routes, with their short drives and two-night halts, suit them best. Tell us who is travelling and we will point you the right way.
Why plan your nine days in Kerala with trip2keralam
If nine days is more than your calendar allows, our Kerala tour packages for 8 days keep the classic circuit and add one region a shorter trip skips. With a little more room, the Kerala tour packages for 10 days pair the far north and the deep south without making you choose. For the water on its own, see our Alleppey houseboat packages, and for the hills, our Munnar tour packages.
A local team, not a reseller
We are a Kerala-based team and every trip is run from here, on the ground, not resold from a call center in another state. Over nine days and several districts, that is the difference between a plan that holds up on real roads and one that reads well and then falls apart.
Prices and routes shown upfront
You see the full day-by-day route and the exact per-person price before you pay anything. We book open-jaw where it saves you a day, even when a return ticket looks tidier on paper.
A private vehicle and a driver who knows the roads
The vehicle is private and stays with you the whole trip, with a driver who knows which viewpoint clears of cloud by mid-morning and which ghat is being resurfaced this month.
Stays we book direct
The houseboats and hotels are ones we deal with directly, so a full-board houseboat means the meals we listed, cooked on board, not a stripped-back version.
We flag the catches before you book
We flag the catches upfront: the six-hour Wayanad leg, the Gavi booking window, whether the Poovar ferry works with your flight. An honest warning beats a cancelled trip.
Booking on a part payment
You book with a part payment. 50 percent confirms your dates and the balance falls due before departure or on arrival, with inclusions, exclusions and cancellation terms set out in writing first.
Reachable 24x7 through the trip
Someone from our Kerala team is reachable 24x7 through the trip, in the same time zone as your holiday.
Your 9-day Kerala questions, answered
Is 9 days enough to see Kerala properly?
Yes, for one unhurried line through the state. Nine days holds the classic Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady and houseboat circuit and still leaves room to slow the pace with two-night halts, add Kumarakom and a beach, or run the full length from Bekal to Kovalam. Covering every corner top to bottom is closer to a two-week trip, but nine days sees Kerala without rushing it.
Which 9-day Kerala route is best for a first visit?
How much does a 9-day Kerala trip cost per person?
Can we do Kerala in 9 days without long drives every day?
Yes. The Family Explorer keeps no transfer over about four hours and holds two nights each at Munnar and Thekkady, so you unpack once. The Backwaters and Beaches route has no hill station or ghat road at all, with three nights at Kumarakom and short hops after. Both are the ones we point families and anyone prone to carsickness towards.
Is there a 9-day Kerala route off the usual tourist trail?
Which airports should we use for a 9-day Kerala trip?
Do all the 9-day packages include a houseboat night?
Is 9 days good for a Kerala honeymoon?
Plan your nine days in Kerala with our team
Nine days is enough to see Kerala properly and slow it down at the same time, as long as the route is built around your dates rather than pulled off a shelf. Tell us when you are travelling and who is coming, and our team in Kerala will put the plan together, hotels, houseboat, vehicle and route, with a firm per-person quote before you commit.
Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp or by email, and we will send back a nine-day route and price the same day.
